The Carmel High School Mission trip will be serving in the town of Monte Plata – which is a landlocked city in central part of DP. The group will be flying in and out of Santo Domingo – which is on the water (see the map above, it in the south part of the Dominion Republic)! Monte Plata is a province of the Dominican Republic, and also the name of its capital city. It was split from San Cristóbal in 1992.
History

Culture
The main cultural wealth that have are its elements folk, dances, songs, stories, oral traditions and written, historic monuments, their popular religiousness, beliefs. These the mountainous foothills they form it, their rivers and gaps, which constitute a great wealth the tourism.
Sport
In spite of the so many changes dated, this province and its municipalities still maintain the hope that that sports event be celebrated there The communities of this province expect that through that sports event arrive them the improvement of its living conditions, that is to say, solutions in its communication routes, aqueducts, dwellings and other facilities. The Monte Plata province occupies one of the highest indices of poverty of the country. For such reason, the sports leaders, the athletes and the Silver Mount citizens and the municipalities of Large Savannah of Boyá, Bayaguana and Yamasá show anxiety when they refer to the celebration of the National Play. The provincial leaders Isaac Ogando, Happy Severino, Luis Mazara, Holy Angel Peguero and Amaury Warlike they expressed to [TO] HOUR that the communities of there are very attentive to everything that happens around the event and, although they feel frustrated by the so many changes dated, still they maintain their hopes. "The only hope of this town is in the word of the president of the Republic, Hipólito Mejía, who in innumerable occasions has assured that the XIII National Play are a commitment of its government and that will be celebrated after the pan-american, specifically in March of 2004, and we believe", said Ogando, although recognized that the so many promises maintain to the communities of the province in a total skepticism. It admitted that, although the Silver Mount province is recognized as a bastion of the Dominican Revolutionary Party, where the extinct leader of that organization José Francisco Rock Gómez had great emotional connection, if the Play are not celebrated there is almost sure that a massive race toward other political forces arise. "The people here is not 'foolish' and is very attentive, and the sample is that no matter how wherever you move the people questions you and wants encouraging informations originating from a sure source and, being realist, many times wanted to remain me quiet for have not that to admit the reality".
