Psalm 33:3 “Play Skillfully…”
We Celebrate With Song!!!

Music is an important part of the life, and worship at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Through
music we are able to bond with other believers in Christian fellowship, and use the talents and gifts that God has given us to worship Him, and inspire others to lift up the name of the Lord! Psalm 33:3 admonishes us to..."Play skillfully", and we feel that God has equipped us to bring glory to him in a unique way. Our Worship Committee has worked hard to put together a service that we call "Convergent", and is unusual in that it has some very traditional elements as well as some very contemporary elements included in the same service. The traditional elements include ringing in of worship, candle lighting, and singing familiar, time honored, majestic hymns with the organ. Contemporary elements carefully woven in the service include the Carmel Praise Team and Praise Band leading in songs of praise, and ensemble groups and soloists presenting music that tastefully adds to the atmosphere of worship. These musical offerings mixed with the rich heritage of jazz music brought to Carmel by the former Director of Music, Loonis McGlohon, make a musical experience and "convergence" of musical styles that is truly unusual and inspiring.
The Carmel Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. The Sanctuary Choir is a central force for both the contemporary and traditional elements of our worship experience, singing choral standards as well and the music of Loonis McGlohon, and, at times, more contemporary arrangements and praise songs. The Sanctuary Choir is also key to leading the hymns with the organ, and teaching and leading praise music with the Praise Team.
The Carmel Praise Team and Praise Band includes a worship leader and singers, and drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and keyboard. The Praise Team and Band lead and teach contemporary praise songs in the worship service, and often open the service in the Introit, or sing the anthem. This also offers a place of ministry for some members of our Youth Group, and younger members of the church. Rehearsals are on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Our Mimi Martin Handbell Choir, and our Handbell Ensemble has a special place at Carmel Church, and is used on a regular basis in our worship services, and during special seasons of the year. This group has a wide range of ages, from high school to adult, and offers an opportunity for youth and adults to join together to make music and to add something special to our worship services.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. in the sanctuary.
The Children's Choir sings regularly in worship throughout the year, and presents a pageant/ musical to kick off the Christmas season. The ages are from 5 to 5th grade and beyond. The musical styles include standard children's chorus music, contemporary worship choruses, and the music of current musicians and composers, and always add a special sparkle and excitement to our services.
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. in the Choir Room.
This is an exciting time in the life of Carmel Presbyterian Church, and the Music Department is doing all they can to inspire and encourage our people to be blessing people
