Carmel's 9th graders are encouraged to participate in the 9 month (school-year) long Confirmation Class which is an indication that Carmel takes its responsibilty seriously to nurture the children and youth in the life of the church and to encourage them as they take the next step towards truly understanding the church and God's plan for their life. Attending the class is not a requirement but a choice that the family should make together because it does require a significant committment. In addition to attending class regularly, students are expected to attend worship and participate in activities such as greeting or ushering for one of the worship services, class retreats, and attending a Session meeting. Team taught by adult leaders, the curriculum Questions Worth Asking, which is based on the Heidelberg Catechism, an old and treasured confession that's been the backbone of youth education for many years in Reformed churches consistently and creatively relates to the daily lives of high schoolers .
