NEW THIS WINTER!

Alpha - Carmel Style!
Date and Time: Monday, January 23 for 10 weeks, 7:00-8:30 PM
Location: Home of Jim and Becky Szeyller
Purpose: Alpha is designed as an evangelism class for the un-churched. However, it is an excellent introduction to the basics of the Christian faith. Alpha is casual, designed to create a safe atmosphere where any question about the Christian faith can be asked, and limited in size to ensure conversational intimacy.
Facilitator: Jim Szeyller! Contact
jim@carmelpresbyterian.org to register. Limit: 10

COMING THIS WINTER … a monthly small group.  If someone in your home calls you “Mommy” or “Daddy”, chances are the newest small group being formed is for YOU! If you have a child in elementary school and want support as you raise your children in the faith, be watching for news about a group that is forming just for y-o-u parents.

More Bible Study/Fellowship Groups

BAND OF BROTHERS:  This winter’s study is based on InSPire, because we want to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to be and do all that Jesus desires. We are also a men’s accountability group.
Meeting days and times: Every Saturday at 7:00 - 8:30 AM, Panera Bread on Fairview
Contact: Mike Jette home - 704-365-8069 or
michaeljette@mac.com

BAND OF BROTHERS South:  This discipleship and accountability group contains men with a hunger to become a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ in word and deed. We’re studying Costly  Discipleship by Bonheoffer, a very challenging book asking for a true commitment to Jesus!
Meeting days and times: Every Saturday at 7:00-8:30 AM, Panera Bread on Carmel & 51
Contact: Eric deNeve at
edeneve@carolina.rr.com

Meeting days and times: 1st Sunday of each month from 7:00 - 8:00 PM in the Library.
Contact: Hilda Rutherford at
hprutherford@msn.com

LADIES’ SPIRITUAL FORMATION: By regularly practicing prayer, meditation, scripture reading, worship, solitude and more, we put ourselves on God’s path to change us “from the inside out”. Join us this winter as we continue practicing the things that Jesus practiced, choosing our exercises from the wonderful “Spiritual Formation Workbook”.
Meeting days and times: Kick off Dinner on January 15 at 6:00 PM, then every 2nd or 3rd Sunday at 5:45 PM in the Cathcart Center  Contact: Anne Hilborn at
ahilborn@carmelpresbyterian.org

TUESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY: Beth Moore’s newest study - James: Mercy Triumphs. Meets every other Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 PM in Ligon Hall. Meeting dates: Jan. 10 & 24, Feb. 7 & 21, Mar. 6 & 20, Apr. 10 & 24 Contact: Carolyn Hildreth at mcmkhildreth@mindspring.com or Becky Szeyller at 704-779-2277.

WOMEN’S CIRCLE GROUP: Are our values shaped by our faith or have we defaulted to the values of our culture? This will be a question to ponder as the group studies So Long, Status Qou by Susie Flory. We pray for and encourage one another and are always blessed by time shared together. We have also begun Operation Sandwich, and make sandwiches for the Urban Ministry Center following each meeting. Join us! Meeting days and times: 2nd Tuesday of  each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00PM in the Library Contact: Gaye Burns at herbburns@aol.com

                                        Ministry Groups

Amani Beads: Please join us for a fun time making jewelry to sell to support an orphanage in Kenya. No experience is necessary! Or come and watch what we do and enjoy the fellowship. We hope to see some new faces! Meeting days and times: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month at 10:00am till noon in the Cathcart Center Contact: Debbie Ferrell at aldebf@windstream.net

Men’s Prayer Breakfast: Attention to prayer needs is the central focus of this group. Men of our church take turns with food preparation, while enjoying the fellowship and opportunities to support missionaries and ministries of our congregation. We are participating in InSPire. Meeting days and times: Every Monday morning at 7:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall Contact: Bill Diminick at BDominick@rutlandinc.com

Monday PM Prayer Group: Based on Matthew 18:19, 20 as Jesus promises to be in the midst of “2 or 3 gathered in My name”, this small group meets weekly to pray. Prayers are welcome to come into the Prayer Room (Fellowship Hall) to pray for this, the Lord’s congregation. Prayer is a powerful tool and weapon which God uses mightily in the spiritual realm and often answers in the visible realm. Come as you are available! Meeting days and times: Every Monday at 7:00 PM Contact: David Williamson at hDavidWson@aol.com

Sit N Stitch: Our purpose is to “stitch” for others and “warm” them with our efforts and projects. We help a group at the South County Regional Library where afghans are assembled and distributed in our Mecklenburg County communities. We also make scarves that are donated to the homeless during the winter months. On a closer home front, we lovingly knit and crochet prayer shawls and lap blankets for members of CPC. Meeting days and times: 1st Wednesday of every month from 10:00am - noon in the Church Library  Contact: Priscilla Perkins at 704-365-4077 or
pperkins4@yahoo.com

Women’s Prayer Group: This group welcomes newcomers to the table to pray! Believing in the power of prayer - and that women need each other, they happily pray through the CPC Prayer List … and then for one another. A blessing, indeed! Meeting days and times: Monday mornings at 11:00 am in the Church Library Contact: Alice Rogers at aprogers@carolina.rr.com

Support Groups

rAiSiNg AdULTz … in an age of entitlement
This new-er “small group” will meet every two months at the Zidaroff’s home in 2012, with weekly YouTube clips produced in between. If you missed the January Kick-off dinner, be sure to share with Dan Moore (director of Youth and College-Age Ministries) issues you’d love for him to address on YouTube. We’re aware that you are trying to raise a Christian adult (while sometimes trying to remain one)! Email Dan with Q’s or to be added to his distribution list at
dmoore@carmelpresbyterian.org.

 Scripture Minimize

Acts 8:26 - 31
Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
