Brief theology and information on scheduling baptism
Want to ask a pastor a question about Baptism?
Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the covenanting grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is given by God to the church to assure us of God's love, inclusion into the church family, and to help us to be faithful. In baptism we acknowledge Christ's crucifixion and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins, we are accepted into the fellowship of the church and recognized as members of the family of God. Baptism is not a guarantee of salvation. It is, however, a powerful sign of God calling us together as family. The sacrament of baptism always takes place in the presence of the gathered community of faith, that is, in the midst of a worship service.
Adult Baptism - Baptism is available to adults and youth (usually over 14 years of age or on the completion of the Confirmation class) upon profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Infant Baptism - We believe, in baptism, we are responding to grace which has already been given to us by God in Christ Jesus. In presenting their child(ren) for baptism, parents are responding to that grace on their child(ren)'s behalf, and promise to raise their child(ren) to know, love, and serve the Lord. The congregation joins the parents in pledging to uphold a responsibility that is both sacred and rewarding.
Parents who wish to have their children baptized must meet with one of our ministers. At least one parent must be a member of the church. You may schedule an appointment by calling the church office at 704-366-5114 or Email . Prior to the scheduled meeting, parents will be mailed a packet of information, including a form that must be filled out and returned to the church administrative assistant. The form gives parents date options for scheduling their child(ren)'s baptism. Once the form has been received in the church office and the consultation with the pastoral staff has occurred, the church administrative assistant will confirm the date with the parents by phone. Parent(s) are asked to wait until they have received confirmation before making any plans for the baptism. This is to ensure that both the family and the church are in concurrence with the schedule.
